Indian shares opened flat to slightly higher on Friday as investors awaited macro data as well as key earnings reports for direction.
The benchmark BSE Sensex was up 80 points or 0.21 percent at 38,686 while the broader Nifty index was up 19 points or 0.17 percent at 11,616.
Asian Paints, GAIL, Tata Steel and BPCL climbed around 1 percent while HDFC, Bajaj Auto, Tata Motors and Grasim were down between half a percent and 1 percent.
